MUMBAI, India (AP) — Flag football and cricket were among five sports that took their next step Friday toward inevitably being added to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The International Olympic Committee executive board recommended all five sports — including baseball-softball, lacrosse and squash — that were formally requested Monday by organizers of the LA Games. The final elevation to the 2028 program should come Monday at a meeting of about 100 IOC members who typically rubberstamp the board’s views.“These proposals have been accepted as a package,” said IOC president Thomas Bach, who chairs the 15-member board, hailing a showcase of “iconic American sports to the world while bringing at the same time international sports to the United States.”Cricket is a big-ticket item for the IOC. The sport is expected to raise broadcast revenue from India by at least $100 million when the country’s favorite sport joins the Olympics.“For the Olympic movement, it is the opportunity to engage wit...Victims of crime in DC tell Congress their stories during a hearing on Capitol Hill

Victims of crime in the District spoke before Republican leaders on Capitol Hill Thursday, telling the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance their stories and their concerns about the increase in crime in the city.During the hearing, Gaynor Jablonski, who owns the Valor Brewpub on Capitol Hill, showed a video of a DoorDash driver attacking him then pointing a gun at him as his 4-year-old son sat watching next to him.“As horrific as that video is, what happened after was even worse,” Jablonski said, criticizing how the case was prosecuted and the perpetrator’s sentence. “He gets eight months and I’m left explaining to my 5-year-old why I had to fight this man. And my 5-year-old tells me when I drop him off at school every day to, ‘Be safe.'”D.C. resident Mitchell Sobolevsky said that he was a victim of a robbery in the Shaw neighborhood in December of 2020.“He told me, ‘Do what I say and you ain...NASA sends spacecraft on a six-year journey to explore a rare asteroid made of metal

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Marcus Smart sees no reason why the Grizzlies can’t be the NBA’s best defensive team this season. It’s not just bold talk from a brash player. Smart knows exactly why Memphis traded for him in June. Not only did the Grizzlies rank third in the NBA in defensive rating last season behind the play of Jaren Jackson Jr., the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, but Smart won that same award in 2022. That makes Memphis the first NBA team to pair back-to-back defensive players of the year since the award was first handed out in 1983.It has Smart marveling at the possibilities that could be on the horizon.“As a defensive guy coming on a team who thinks just like you and has guys such as Jaren in the same boat (that) understand the defense and how important it is … they’ll take you to a new level,” Smart said.Even as good as the Grizzlies have been on defense, this is an upgrade. They traded Dillon Brooks, who was named to the NBA All-Defense second...Sports on TV for October 14 – 15

(NEXSTAR) — So-called “forever chemicals” have been found in 45% of the nation’s tap water, according to a government study, but is your Colorado water affected? If you’re wondering whether or not your tap water might contain synthetic chemicals known as PFAS, nonprofit Environmental Working Group created an interactive map using official records and data from public drinking water systems to show where forever chemicals were found to be above and below the advised maximum concentration level, 4 parts per trillion (PPT).EWG notes that while researchers used the highest quality data available, contamination levels are based on a single point in time and may not reflect changes to the water system or treatment efforts.(Copyright © Environmental Working Group)Search the map for your own address. The synthetic compounds known collectively as PFAS are contaminating drinking water to varying extents in large cities and small towns — and in private wells and pub...13-year-old arrested after allegedly killing his mother in Hialeah

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Bryce Young has been watching Tua Tagovailoa for a long time. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner saw Tagovailoa excel at Alabama and help transform the Crimson Tide’s run-first offense into a pro-style scheme that pushed the ball down the field. That, in turn, influenced Young’s decision to go to Tuscaloosa.“It was a big transition from when he was there,” the Carolina Panthers’ rookie quarterback said, “just what the offense looked like and what Alabama moved to offensively. It’s flourished since then, and I was a recruit when all that was happening, so that was a really big reason for me being there.”Tagovailoa said he didn’t know he had that impact on Young, who became Alabama’s starter a year after Tagovailoa was drafted by the Dolphins, but he remembers being a part of Alabama’s offensive evolution.“It’s one of those things that, ‘Yeah, Alabama is not just a ground-and-pound team,’” Tagovailoa said. “...Mobilizing effort to get Americans out of Israel underway as families arrive at MIA

The United States, along with the Israeli government, are mobilizing together to get Americans who are still in Israel out of harm’s way.On Friday morning, there were several tearful reunions as people arrived at Miami International Airport. The flights to get out of Israel were far and few, and for those who were able to catch a flight, it was an expensive endeavor. 7News cameras captured a family who were able to make it to South Florida. They were in Israel when the attacks broke out.The couple flew out Saturday and left their child with some family. Now, with some help from the U.S. government, they were able to reunite with their daughter. It was the first time they were able to hold their daughter in over a week. “Today, we are in 2023, we are not in 1943,” the father said. “We are strong. The United States stands with us and thank God, thank God, my baby come.”In an effort to help U.S. residents who are attempting to flee Israel, Twenty-eight-yea...Latest news
